along the banks of the hudson
came a breeze rode by summer feet
walking barefoot on gravel in a foreign street
where the rain from the grass
pays no mind to those
who've trespassed.
migrating north,
migrating to a new home
a shrinking state
lonely roads and utensils,
cementing a fear, ten thousand feet below.
traveling to man made lakes, in hopes of drowning ghosts we've long ago lost,
keeping in mind the position of our hands and of our lungs
clicking minds and holding breaths
knowing thoughts before they're thought
and thinking the same.
we'll migrate home
to the foreign lands of forgiving rains
i've never heard of the past or future.
looking up to familiar shores, with nothing to guide two.
so let these dinosaurs thump in our chest cavities,
cause i don't mind it much.

from the hills you came
Air: filled with salt and the ground
wet with life
walking with sea legs over big skies;
clouds pulled down
let a smile through, bring back this life.
mother Nature has claimed again.
this storm misfired;
stable world gone awry
mountain Sunken into valleys,
lakes turn to fields,
rivers slow their pace
to see the sky darken up.
today the Night came early for the earth and sky.
welts dot the valleys, for mother Nature has missed her mark,
taken one of her own,
pages left blank.
this book will continue and be filled
by those who too, rode the river.
to continue the book of the one whose voice came from the hills.
words will pass margins,
for great lives are carried beyond pages,
life will not be ceased.
memories carry her fire, we carry her fire.
mother Nature cannot extinguish her,
for we each possess and ember in our chest
scattered from her flame.
as we burn, she burns.
we will carry the fire.
miss ya Shannon.

large rooms
create large silences
technology has fragmented
a family once so strong
let the dog take his nap,
he's seen too much

It's good to be home.
